Review should give him zero stars.Run from this guy and office and delete and block him from any transaction. He makes appointments jerks you around for years. Doesn’t return phone calls no matter how many times you call. Charges a lot of money and screws up your taxes. Poor advisor. Blames you for his mistake and confused you for some other customer. Promised big refund in the thousands and charged a lot for it. Never got it and he avoided the issue for three years until I had enough with his incompetence and unprofessional manner. He’s a low life who lies and avoids talking to you when he screws up. Go anywhere in Arizona but him. You pay and get garbage work. Worthless tax man . His one star reviews are 100% honest. In my opinion good reviews must be him or his friends . We found nothing good about him as a human being who jerks around his customers. Customer beware of this sheister

After a frustrating last two years using this CPA office, this year finally cinched our decision not to use them again. There were some issues filing our taxes electronically so we were told to expect a hard copy in the mail that we needed to sign and send to the IRS. First, it took more than a week for the paperwork to travel from one Arizona city to another. That was especially frustrating because we are already late getting everything completed. Unfortunately, that is so minor compared to the next step in this saga. We finally received an envelope this weekend from Chaston only to open it and find somebody else's tax return in it. We were sent this person's private, unsecure information. So we drove the 60 miles to the office to get ours and return the other. And, apparently, this man had been contacted because he received our tax information. That's fairly horrifying, right? We were given a new printout of our information, paid for postage, and an apology. I find this completely insufficient. There is no guarantee that our information will be treated discreetly or respectfully, and this "service" cost us a mere $270. Mistakes are made daily. I understand that. Double checking address labels before sending something as sensitive as tax information seems like a very reasonably avoidable mistake. We will never again trust this office with our information. I strongly recommend that nobody else does either.

Around the last week of February, we had an appointment with these people, we left our documents and we were told that we would get our refund approximately 2 weeks after the documents were submitted. A few days later after we had the appointment, they called asking for their $250.00 Fee Check, which they got and was paid March 13th. We are in the month of April still waiting for our refund. My husband called today (April 1st.) and they said they "forgot" to send the documents to the IRS. Still don't understand how they forgot to send my documents but they didn't forget to call asking for money? Knowing that these days is so easy to do Income taxes on the internet, why is he still charging $250.00 for a lousy job? I never met James Chaston personally, so I wonder if he knows what is going on behind his back, maybe he needs to replace that staff. I know I am not going back to this place, and I don't recommend them to anybody!

So not sure how he got 5 stars but that's ok this is just my opinion. I've been going here for 3 years now and for the most part I didnt really need to for how easy my return is. I would even get asked what are you doing here lol. Well this year not sure what happened but it seems that James just stopped caring, I've had to physically stop in on 6 different times to try and get some kind of update on my taxes, the 3 time I was there I finally got an update and that we are just waiting for James to approve them. Still took another week before they ever got to my taxes. I dropped off my paperwork 2 weeks before the 27th of Feb witch is the day I would have received my refund if they did what I'm paying them to do on top of that it was an extra $50 this year and for what? To be treated as if my taxes aren't important enough to get them done in a timely manner. I was told 4 day prior to the last time me having to go in there that my paper work will be placed at the top of the pile so they can get it done. That Saturday I walked in for the last time expecting them to have my paperwork ready for me to sign, witch they did however they already had it done on Friday I guess someone forgot to call me. Then the issue with the money needing to be paid before he cam fully submit my taxes. Every other year before that I was able to pay him after I got my taxes not being able to do that just dragged out the time I'm having to wait for my refund. So there is no real reason for me to have a CPA when there is so many companies doing it for free. Unless you have a complicated return then these guys are useless. I will not be returning to this company and if you have a time sensitive return in mind you might as well do it yourself. It took them about a month to prepare, notify me about the paperwork witch they didnt and submit.

If you want a CPA that is truly "not your ordinary CPA" this is the guy for you. As a financial adviser i vetted my way through multiple CPA's before finding a home with Jim Chaston. I needed someone knowledgeable and also someone that goes above and beyond for his clients. Jim has always been responsive with communication and always knows the answers on the spot. The previous CPA's that i vetted would always just tell me to "check the IRS website" to find the answers to my questions because they weren't always 100% sure. This does not work for me because if i refer my own clients to him and the client calls him with a question, I don't want the CPA's answer to be "check the IRS website". This is why we hire professionals because they are suppose to know these answers to our questions and Jim always does. You want your CPA to treat you right and know their stuff then Jim Chaston is who you want and he is the only person i recommend and refer people to.
