When I decided to start my own business more than 10 years ago, a successful older friend and mentor told me my three most important decisions would be on an accountant, banker and lawyer. I thought he was old school and decided Google and I could probably figure out most of this stuff on our own. I could not have been more wrong.I wasted a lot of time (years!) and money before I surrounded myself with a team that included people like Gary and his team at Phillips Tax. The fact is that if you are going to stick your neck out and build a business, nothing is more important than accounting. Without help, you can waste a ton of time trying to setup Quickbooks the right way. You also have to understand your FICA and sales tax obligations. Even more important, you need to have a reporting and tracking system in place to grow and keep any suppliers/creditors happy so that you can expand.Gary and his team are the kind of people you can trust when you sit down and share your business goals and dreams. Trust me, you don't need to be an expert at everything. Let them help you put together a great set of books so that you can focus on whatever led you to start your business in the first place. I am guessing it probably wasn't accounting, anyway :-).
