SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE... *MUST READ*If you’re a Small Business Owner, you’ll want to read this. I’m a very small business owner and was in need of an accountant to help he get caught up (I’m sure I’m not the only one). I went in last week for a consultation with Andrea (the owner). She was very aggressive right from the get go, but figured I’d give her the benefit of the doubt. Despite the seemingly high rates I decided to give them a shot. Before leaving, she slid a piece of paper in front of me and told me to sign it. (Regretfully, I didn’t read it over). She also told me I had to leave a $500 deposit for them to even open my account. That’s not just a couple dollars for a small business owner. But despite being concerned about it, I transferred her $500. One day later- I told a friend of mine how much Emerald was going to charge me PER MONTH, and he nearly fell over... he told me his accountant could do it for a THIRD of the cost. So naturally as a Small Business Owner- I wanted to save a few thousand a year and go with the cheaper option. I called Emerald that day and spoke with one of her managers (Dan). Told him I had found someone cheaper, and decided I wouldn’t be going with Emerald after all. He of course tried to persuade me into giving them a chance. I declined and asked to have my $500 deposit back since they hadn’t done any accounting work for me yet..... and this is where I saw the true character of Emerald. He made it very clear that there was no chance in hell I’d get my $500 back...I asked to speak with Andrea personally- she was “in a meeting”. I called back Monday (yesterday), to ask her for my deposit back. Finally getting through to her, she told me ,and I quote “That $500 is gone. My hourly wage for the consultation (which I assumed was free but apparently isn’t) was $195 per hour. As well as the $95 to open my account, along with another $95 to close it. Well, first things first- that doesn’t add up to $500... Second, she doesn’t tell you that this consultation costs $195 per hour- so be sure you’re not burning up to much time if you go in for one! And lastly, she had the audacity to tell me,not only am I not getting my deposit back- but I also owe them another $252 because I didn’t cancel within 10 days of the months end.All this.... after being with Emerald for ONE day. All I wanted was the $500 deposit back that they didn’t work for. But apparently they need it more than I do. Now ,because of this review, they’ll potentially lose tens of thousands. Refund my deposit and the review comes down. Signed- Small Business Owner
