Client Review on Accel Tax & Business Services, LLC

Feedback:

I used Mark Neath at Accel for my tax returns. Well, he made a large error that resulted in a $22,978 over payment of federal tax and $3,600 in state. Yes, over $26,000 tax paid in error. What's worse, I found the error. Then after I pointed out the error, he still didn't see the over payment of tax. (The error was a double tax payment of an IRA rollover.)Mark's comment after I asked about the error:"No, you definitely paid tax only once." August 11, 2014."...my software has been treating it (incorrectly) as a tax-free rollover..." August 11, 2014.After another email pointing out the error in even more detail, I finally got him to see the mistake.Mark wrote: "Crap. You’re right. Good catch. I don’t know how that happened..."He also wrote "I can’t believe I didn’t catch that. Too trusting of the computer I guess. It definitely seems to be a bug in our tax software..."After the amended return was filed, it took 14 months to get my money back from the IRS. When I asked Accel for a refund, Mark replied:"I’m sorry this was such a hassle for you, but it’s not reasonable to refund the tax prep fees."Mark also wrote:"At the end of the day, you are responsible for reviewing the return and ensuring its accuracy before filing."November 30, 2015.I never received an apology or a refund from Accel for the error. Instead, I was reminded that I was responsible.
