Feedback:

Mark and his team are timely, responsive, and reasonably priced. Everyone is very friendly and happy to answer questions - in fact, small quick questions tend to incur no extra charges. Mark is very personable and organized. He communicates about all pending deadlines and will meet deadlines with reasonable client cooperation. We've used the firm for probably 5 years now and won't look back. A bonus is the firm's super fun "customer appreciation party" in the early Fall - food, drinks, fun for kids, etc.

I highly recommend Mark and his team. Mark is hard working, very competent, ethical and honest. I love the fact that he also supports local youth sports programs...I would highly recommend Mark and his group.

IRS sent me a letter that I needed to pay them $36 more after they file tax for my small business.. I have owned my business for 10 years and It has never been happened with other accountants that I hired before..

My only regret as far as hiring Mark and his team is that I didn't get their help sooner. When my wife and I started our business, things were so simple: (not so much) money coming in - money out + turbotax = happy IRS + happy us. But as our business grew over the years, the shadow and terror of the U.S. Tax Code started to creep slowly into our lives, drowning us in paperwork, obscure rules, and estimated tax payments. Dun-dun-duuun! Anyway, we found out we were really screwed and that my training as a PhD in Aerospace Engineering hadn't really prepared to deal with the almighty IRS when we applied for a home loan. Boy, you think dealing with IRS is tough? They got nothing on home loan underwriters. Enter Mark. I searched on Yelp for an accountant, and his name came up. I scheduled an appointment. I went into his office feeling like an idiot because at our income level we should have gotten an accountant years ago. He was super friendly, devoted a lot of time to listening to us, and knows more about the monstrous tax code that I could ever hope to learn. More importantly, and what really sold it for me after talking to other accountants, was that he understood what our business was about. Our business model is unconventional -- we sell eBooks and other printable goods. As simple as that sounds, people have a difficult time comprehending how we make money. Mark didn't. He asked us several specific questions about the business, until he really understood what it was about. Fast forward a few months, our business is still going strong, we do not feel the cloud of the IRS over our heads, and we have a better plan for paying payroll and estimated taxes. Granted, we never leave Mark's office happy, as he always has a accurate idea of the exorbitant estimated taxes that we have to pay; but we do leave satisfied and confident that the IRS won't be knocking on our door anytime soon. I highly recommend Mark and his team!

Excellent Service and Professional Staff. I have used The Sunderland Group for several years and have always been pleased with the care and services provided by the team. They offer a great online tool and offer flexibility in face to face meetings as needed. It’s great to have a honest, competent and friendly CPA that’s in Boulder. The Sunderland Group has taken care of our personal tax returns for the last few years with out any problems. Usually near the beginning of the year, we get an update engagement letter which spells out all the deadlines we need to meet in order to get our tax work done. Its very helpful to know what you need to provide and by when.Since their a smaller firm, I understand they don't have hundreds of people sitting around waiting for my paper work like a H&R Block but, can you trust a firm like that?

We have worked together with the Sunderland Group for a number of years now and each year gets better! Their client portal is so easy to use to review all of our business and personal finance and tax documents. The Sunderland Group sets specific dates to submit documents for tax time and those dates are very clear. We have learned that it is very valuable to meet with Mark on a regular basis to review our accounts and where we stand. They also helped our small business change from an LLC to an S-Corp, which was beneficial for our taxes.

Steer clear of this guy as a CPA for either your personal finances or small business (the two areas I've worked with him on).He's actually a likable guy - but he's a terrible accountant.Specifically, it's April 4th and I've been waiting to hear when he'd have my small company's taxes finished, as well as my joint return with my wife. He then tells me in an irritated tone that we'll have to file an extension (i.e. not file our taxes on time).I was shocked - not only are our taxes not finished, but he's not even promising to get them done on time! I told him that was unacceptable because I have investors counting on him to get our taxes done on time, and to make a long story short, he then got upset and REFUSED to even complete the returns he had already started!!! On April 4th. Totally unbelievable. So now I have to start all over with a new accountant. And April 15th is less than 2 weeks away.So now my family is basically screwed because of Mark Sunderland - and so is my small business and my investors.Again - if you value your time or money, stay away from this firm - and find a CPA who actually cares about their clients and takes some responsibility for the impact they have on their clients' lives.
