As a person who hadn’t never used unemployment benefits, I was in need after quitting years-long job that caused me to go to the hospital. Your typical hate-filled toxic workplace, I was being regularly harassed by a manager. I was denied benefits, as they deemed my reason for quitting as another. I was making 60k a year, so apparently harassment wasn’t a good excuse. I was directed toward warehouse/material handling the whole time I was there. It seemed they needed bodies to fill the position, rather than work with me to find something, or to help fill a quota. Many hoops to jump through and pride to swallow, for nothing. I’d recommend doing it yourself.

They provide a valuable service to those in need, but often require too many mandatory workshops that are almost useless to older workers who already know how to write a resume and cover letter. It's understandable that many people out there have never been taught this skill, but I wish they would allow people to obtain a waiver for certain workshops if they can demonstrate their knowledge in the area being covered.
