Overall Feedback:
I had an extremely disappointing experience with KCDS. The job postings board is great and helped me out with short-term employment, but when it came time to help me start a new career, they fell way short.I went through a very time (and paper-intensive) process that lasted 6 months, and was told that my application looked very promising. It was to get Skills Training funding. My application was first approved, and then withdrawn because of a wrist injury, citing concerns that I would not be able to complete my program or work in the field I had chosen. The wrist injury did not, at any time, prevent me from doing well in my program nor would it have prevented me from working in my chosen field, and this was later confirmed and proven by a third party. Despite this, funding was never again awarded to me, and the program facilitator that I worked with showed no interest in helping me once my application was rejected.Unfortunately, at no time was it explained to me that I was able to appeal this decision, and by the time I'd learned of such, it was too late to appeal. Now that I've started my program, there is no way for me to apply for funding again. This has incurred a massive debt load on to me.Although it was never an impediment to my chosen field, my wrist injury did eventually get better because of the effort and money that I personally put into rehabilitation. KCDS offered no help with this rehabilitation, instead choosing to withdraw their support based on a misinformed reaction to the injury. All told, the entire process took about 6 months and hundreds of hours of my time. In the end, all I did was stress myself out trying to prove my "worth" to a government organization that showed me they didn't really care. This stress contributed to serious health problems, including persistent headaches that impacted my performance in school and ability to care for myself and others, which eventually led to me slowing down my program, which in turn incurred an even higher debt load on to me.Subsequent attempts at communication with the organization were not helpful or fruitful. I was told that unless I left my chosen program, I was completely on my own. Those who claimed they were there to help me did not, in fact, ever offer any assistance that was truly helpful.
