Hopefully my review gives people a good picture of how Gem State works....I will include how to get started, what kind of jobs they offer, paydays and ill include what assignments I got at the very endThe application is quick and easy, no hassle. Walk ins are very welcome, I believe the cut off time is 4:30. First you fill out the basic paperwork about yourself, then you read their rules/safety guidelines and then they ask you some quick questions about your work experience, what kind of work you want to do, what work you want to avoid and the minimum amount of money you'll work for so they only recommend jobs that meet those criteria.. That's it, youre ready to start working! The entire process took me less than one hour and I had a job the next day. Whenever youre ready to begin working you just call them around 5PM and let them know you want work. They will let you know what jobs are available for the following day. If youre interested, they have you go to their office the next morning before your shift begins and they provide you with a map, your time card and any additional materials the job may require ( hard hat, vest, goggles, ive even seen them provide work boots to some guys) and youre on your way to your new job.They work with a wide range of employers, depending on your experience and whats available on the day you call ...you can get an office job, customer service, kitchen work, manual labor, construction, plumbing etc... The jobs can last a few days, few weeks or be temp to permanent hire. I am a young guy with a felony, no college degree and no experience in any valuable trades... Despite this, they always have jobs ready whenever I call... Usually around $12/ hr, but ive been offered up to $17/ hr. This is amazing for Boise, someone with no experience, and when you need income ASAP.Payday is EVERY Friday, you just go to their office with your time card and they cut you a check on the spot ready to cash. You can cash it for free at Key Bank just a short ways down Fairview from their office. That easyI have one memory in particular that I feel sums up Gem State... I was scheduled to start my FIRST job through Gem State the next morning, however it didn't pay as much as I was hoping to make but I wasn't in a position to be picky. Around 7PM the evening I get a call from Juan letting me know he found a job that pays more and he switched me to that. In my opinion, it was above and beyond and I really appreciated that. Thank you Juan. Ive shoveled snow at Micron, Ive assembled industrial shelving, Ive fabricated HVAC pipe...pretty much just entry level manual labor which is basically what I asked for, and all that I qualified for. I know they have better work for people with experience and college. Also, after you work for a while and prove youre reliable and hard working they will start offering you the better jobs. They want to make sure youre not going to just no call no show and make them look bad which is completely understandable.So keep that in mind! Ive worked with two other temp agencies in Boise, Gem State being the third. I wish I went to Gem State first... the other two were such a hassle. I get stressed out just thinking back to it honestly. Gem State is honestly a breath of fresh air when it comes to temp agencies. No nonsense, no hassle.... Are you looking for work right now? You got it and you dont have to jump through hoops either. The staff is always friendly, they knew me by name almost immediately which was nice. I would highly recomend
