Nice guy but my US 1040 he prepared had errors on it that would have cost me hundreds of dollars in additional taxes if I had used it. My $500 Canadian tax bill ballooned to over $1000 with added services that either should not have been necessary, were not approved by me, or the service I paid for was never delivered. In particular I was charged $250, and waited 2 years, for a CRA Ruling request that didn't meet the criteria to be accepted. I also was never told there would be about $2000 in additional CRA fees if it had been accepted. I contacted the Professional Conduct Regulatory of the Certified Public Accountants of BC telling them that accountants should be more knowledgeable about this service if they are going to market it to their clients and their response was- " Mr. McCarthy is not a CPA nor his firm a licensed CPA practice. He is not a professional accountant."
