At approximately 6:30 on 5 May 2017 a nurse named "Juanita" called my cell phone telling me my mother, who is a resident of Community Springs Healthcare, was having trouble with her lower ankle and she had noticed a small wound which looked infected. We talked about the best care for her and she admitted that an ambulance could carry her to Bolivar (40 minute trip) which I refused to do - and she admitted to me that there is a hospital in Eldorado Springs only about a block away where she could go - I did tell Juanita that with my 89 year old mother and her beginnings of alzheimers that a ambulance ride would scare her to death and was there ANY OTHER WAY TO GET HER THERE. She told me assuredly that she would make sure she got her there - 2 hours later the hospital called me and asking the nurse there I told them I would come and bring her back to Communty Springs Healthcare Facility where my mother lives. Driving there from 17 miles away I saw that "Juanita" was standing there with my mother, she had taken her there herself, pushing her in her wheelchair that short block to the hospital emergency room. (I might admit, mostly uphill) She had seen a doctor and talking to a very nice woman at the admitting office, where I signed some paperwork, we had a very short meeting in the hallway with a Hospital Nurse and Juanita and talked about pushing her in a wheel chair back, the Hospital Nurse wrapping my mother in a blanket - then it was about 9 PM - In that short walk back Juanita admitted that she had come to work THAT MORNING AT 6 AM - and her shift had ended at 6PM and while talking to me on the phone she had decided to take my mother that short way to the Emergency Room and to stay with her - in the military we call that, "performing duty above and beyond"! With my mothers fear and with Juanita talking to her to calm her down I applaud her nursing skills and leadership abilities - I found her decision making superb! Once inside the facility she checked with the night nurse on her medical needs and at 9:30PM she waved at me, smiling, as she was leaving - finally after her very long day. Thank You Juanita for being there. Gregory Glenn Randoll - son of Jayne Rhea Randoll
