Just visited last Saturday. In the middle of nowhere does not justify its location. Several miles down a washboard forest service road leads to a small craft brew barn where your bartender may be one of the dogs who greet you (lol). Nice selection, stunningly beautiful and friendly folks. Had me a couple of 9.2 IPA's, wasn't driving, and stood outside in awe of nature's beauty.

As a craft beer enthusiast I've visited [most] of the breweries in Arizona. Barnstar is a unique experience. To get there you have to drive several miles of primitive, washboard, dirt road. When you get there it feels more like you're pulling into a private residence than s business, (which I suppose it is). To be honest, the first time we went we pulled up, I got out and looked in the "barn" while my wife and the other couple we were with waited in the car. It was wide open but there was no one around. It felt a little creepy, like we were trespassing- so we left. The next time we tried it was just my wife and I. There were more cars and people this time so we got out. I ordered a flight of beers, (I think 6). None of them really stood out. There were 6 different styles represented but they were all kind of a safe, middle-of-the-road, average representation of each style. 1 or 2 had a distinct off-flavor I didn't care for, but that's to be expected. We sat on a porch around the corner by ourselves as I sipped the samples and my wife enjoyed the scenery. It was quiet, relaxing, and unrushed. More like a peaceful vacation out away from the hustle and bustle than a visit to a brewery, (where hustle and bustle seems to be the objective). We grabbed a growler of something, (I think it was a stout), and left. My wife's parents live in Skull Valley so we drive by quite often. I keep thinking I'd like to visit again, but it's really not someplace you can just drop by for a quick beer on your way to somewhere else. You have to have some time on your hands and not be in a hurry. Otherwise you'll miss the charm of this unique place.
