This review is way overdue! I filed my taxes last year with Annette Mercedes, at ATAX, for 2017. I usually would file them with Omega taxes all the way in Queens, NY, but didn’t want to drive so far so I figured I’d file them locally. I chose ATAX because of their rave reviews online. The day of my appointment, the wait was not long at all but the accountant who handled my case was far from knowledgeable. When she reviewed my documents, the quoted figure of what my return would be was an absolute insult! I told her, I had never heard such low numbers, I am a homeowner and financially support my elderly mother, the number she gave me couldn’t be correct at all. I explained to her how in the past years, I never got anything lower than 5k; so I literally had to drive back home and pick up all of my past years’ tax docs, drive back to ATAX so she can look at how the accountant at Omega would file my taxes. If it wasn’t for me returning with old tax documents so Ms. Mercedes could use them as a guide and file my taxes correctly, my return wouldv’e been less than 2k. She even had the nerve to explain to me how she was doing her job and wasn’t trying to trick the system so I can get a higher return. This is absolutely not what I was trying to have her do at all, but I what I did expect her to do was her job correctly because had I imagined she was this inexperienced I would’ve just filed my own taxes instead of paying ATAX $180. Fast forward to this year, I visited Omega taxes all the way in Queens, NY and when they looked at the job ATAX did, they were shocked how this agency couldn’t get me more than what I got being that my case is so straight forward plus I do not owe the IRS anything. I have always done my taxes with Omega Taxes in Queens, NY except for last year; I will forever regret having wasted my time and money at ATAX. Because of them, I lost at least $1000 in my refund.
