I've lived in Olathe all my life and retired from a plant in KCK. I called around to find a cheaper place and hopefully help my save money on my taxes. But they couldn't have cared less about me. Guess that's what comes with getting old people talk down to you, are rude, or don't have the time for questions. I finally call the UAW and got a recommendation from them for a place in KCK but just want other retires to beware.

This is an experienced, knowledgeable tax office with high professional and ethical standards. I am self-employed, and my husband works for the government, so tax season is always a headache for us! This year we decided to have Joe file for us, and it has been an excellent experience. We will be receiving a refund higher than we expected! Joe and Lois have spent extensive time in professional trainings to best understand the new 2019 tax laws, and I’m confident that my return has been handled in a correct and ethical manner. Both Joe and Lois are extremely knowledgeable, patient with all of our questions, and even offered to match the price of our previous tax preparer. They have mentioned multiple times that we can call or email questions at any time, free of charge, and I have taken advantage of their offer!

Getting a 2 star rating for disorganization (which, quite frankly is not a good look for a tax preparer) and causing me unnecessary stress and time. I'll explain this rating as simply as I can. My employer screwed up my 2015 w2, which they didn't inform me of until this spring. They agreed to reimburse me for having to have an amended return done by a tax preparer. I usually prepare my own, relatively simple taxes, with tax software. However, having had to file an amended return previously, I know they can be a pain, and took my employer up on it. Being as I am all for the small, local business, I contacted All American and explained the situation. I was given an email address and asked to send my original return and my amended w2 by email (I asked if anything else was needed and they said that would be all they needed) and was told it would take a couple days. I sent it as soon as I got it (I was waiting on my employer to mail it to me). A couple days went by. I called. I was told that they they needed my husband's w2. Sent that and a couple days later, got a call it was ready and an email invoice for $350 from Vicki. I email and say "hey, this seems excessive and the invoice says it is for both preparing and amending my 2015 return". Vicki informs me she is "very sorry that I didn't look at the bill before I sent it." I get the invoice for $100 and go pick up my return. As I am waiting, I notice other people's information openly in view on the desk, which I just blew off because, hey, we all get busy, but it is indicative of the disorganization here. I paid my bill with my Mastercard right then and there so that I could immediately turn around and send my employer's reimbursement check in to cover it. Today, TWO AND A HALF MONTHS LATER, I get a voicemail from Vicki saying, in a kind of surly tone, "this is Vicki with All American tax calling to find out when we can expect your invoice to be paid. Please call us right away." Now I panic because I'm sure I paid it. Being as it was two and half months ago, I forgot I used my credit card, because this is something for which I would typically write a check. I spend nearly 25 panicked minutes going through canceled checks, then recall I paid it with my card and spend another five minutes going through my card statements to find proof that I paid on the day I picked up my taxes. (I have now sent this via email to All American, letting them know that this has been unnecessarily stressful and unprofessional.) My point is this, if you're handling people's taxes, and by extension their money, shouldn't you know where your own money/payments are and be able to properly invoice your clients? One error is fine and human, but it seems there were a few errors indicative of a disorganized business. These errors, frankly, caused me additional time and undue stress. Not impressed.*Edit* I have now dropped my rating to one star given the unprofessional email response I got after having to prove I paid my invoice at the time of pickup. I would also like to add that the discount he claims to have given me was never asked for nor conveyed to me. Here is the extremely unprofessional email the owner sent me:"Crispian,I apologize that you were so put out to prove that you had paid your invoice.Certainly we should have considered that when we took your job in house and only charged you less than 1/3 of what our normal rate should have been.We process over 4400 returns during a tax season and unfortunately we are human..and sometimes error. Its nice to know that you are beyond the human capacity to error.We will not contact you again and please feel under no obligation to EVER contact us to do work for you again since we are human.Joe Cumley EA ATP RFC CTC"
